Fog of Dota

Become a tester

Get the Fog of Dota app before it's in the stores, and tell us what breaks. It's free.

Your phone

Join on TestFlight

TestFlight asks you to accept, then install.

On a computer? Open fogofdota.com/app/test on your iPhone and tap the button there.

How it works on iPhone

  1. Get TestFlight

Install TestFlight, Apple's app for testing, from the App Store.

  2. Join

On your iPhone, tap Join on TestFlight on this page. TestFlight opens: tap Accept, then Install.

  3. Play

Open Fog of Dota, sign in through Steam and turn on notifications: your medal at the top right, then Notifications.

About an hour and a half after your last game, a notification like this should come. At night it waits until the morning.

Questions

What do I need?

An iPhone with iOS 16.4 or later, or a phone with Android 7 or later and a Google account.

And a Dota account with public match data: in Dota, open Settings › Social and turn on Expose Public Match Data. Not sure? Check your account.

Is it free?

Yes. The app, the test and Fog of Dota are free, and there are no ads.

How long does it take?

Signing up takes a minute, installing a few more.

On Android the test opens once Google has checked it, which can take a few days. The test then runs 14 days.

On iPhone you can join right away. Each test version works for 90 days, and TestFlight offers you the next one.

What should I tell you?

What breaks and what you don't get. For example:

  • where installing or signing in got stuck
  • whether the test notification came: your medal › Notifications › Send a test notification
  • whether a notification came after you played, and whether a tap on it opened the right page
  • a sentence or a number you didn't get the first time

A screenshot helps. You don't need to check your stats: tell us only when a game you played is missing or your medal is wrong.

Write to hello@fogofdota.com. On iPhone you can also take a screenshot in the app, tap its thumbnail, tap Done and choose Share Beta Feedback.

Why 14 days on Android?

Google lets a new app into Google Play only after at least 12 testers have had it for 14 days in a row. If you leave the test and join again, your 14 days start over.

Google also looks at whether testers use the app, so open Fog after you play now and then.

Does the iPhone app have Friends?

Not yet. Friends, comparing with other players, duels and Dota daily come to the iPhone app in a later version. Until then, use them on fogofdota.com. The Android app has them already.

Can I stop?

Any time. On iPhone, open Fog of Dota in TestFlight and tap Stop Testing, or delete the app. On Android, open Fog of Dota in the Play Store, tap Leave under You're a beta tester, then delete the app. If that's before 14 days, you just don't count toward the 12 testers.

To delete your sign-up, write to hello@fogofdota.com.

Is my data safe?

Fog reads only public match data. Steam sign-in gives us your Steam ID, never your password or e-mail.

Your sign-up is used only for the test, and only your phone's app store gets your e-mail, so it can let you in. We delete it a year after you send it, or sooner if you write to us. More on the Privacy page.
